Bernardo Silva thinks Man City have sorted key Champions League problem

Bernardo Silva thinks Manchester City have already gone one better in their attempt to win a big Champions League knockout tie.

The Blues are looking to beat Real Madrid in the last-16 to advance to the last eight - the best they have managed under Pep Guardiola to date. Two years ago they went out to Liverpool after failing to score in the first leg at Anfield (although a late Leroy Sane was incorrectly ruled out for offside) and last year Sergio Aguero missed a penalty as they went down 1-0 at Tottenham in the first leg.

Real Madrid will still be dangerous next week and have been in exceptional form since the restart under Zinedine Zidane. However, the two goals that City scored at the Bernabeu back in February make Bernardo believe that the side has learned from previous exits.

If they can control the small details in the game, the group are confident they can beat their best ever run in the competition.

"I think that the Champions League is a very complicated competition, but this year we have already done one thing against Real Madrid that didn't happen against Tottenham, which is scoring away goals," he told Marca.

"Scoring two goals away at Real Madrid was so important and I believe that that was one of the big lessons about the match against Tottenham.

"Also, you must manage the game better when you have an advantage in a knockout game, as these little details can count for everything.

"Therefore, we are going to try to better what we have achieved in the previous two years in the Champions League, a competition that neither me nor the club has won before and we really want to do that this year."
