Bernardo Silva sends message to 'pathetic' Liverpool fans after Man City lose in Champions League

Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has sent a pointed message to Liverpool fans on social media after his side crashed out of the Champions League.

City were beaten 3-1 by Lyon yesterday evening to exit the competition at the quarter-final stage.

And earlier this afternoon, Silva sent out a rallying cry promising to strive for better next season.

He tweeted: "The 2019/2020 season has ended for us in a very disappointing way. To all the fans, we’re sorry for this frustrating season.

"The only thing we can promise is that in 2020/2021 we’ll fight a lot to do much better and get back to winning important things for you guys!"

And he has since followed that up with another message - this time for the attention of Reds supporters.

He said: "And to all Liverpool fans that have nothing else to do than to come to a Man City player account, I’m also sorry for you but for the wrong reasons...

"[P]athetic...go celebrate your titles, or try to find a partner, drink a beer with a friend, read a book...

"[S]o many options!"

His second comment received more than 5,000 retweets within 13 minutes of being posted.

Silva, who turned 26 last week, was an unused substitute in last night's match in Portugal.

Pep Guardiola's side will be hoping to bounce back in 2020/21, after claiming the League Cup last term but finishing 18 points adrift of champions Liverpool in the Premier League.
