Bernardo Silva pinpoints when Liverpool's advantage became too much for Man City

Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has issued a Premier League title race admission amid Liverpool's 22-point lead over the two-time reigning champions.

Pep Guardiola's men came into the 2019/20 campaign as favourites after edging out a tremendous Liverpool side last season by just one point.

But everything soon turned on its head this term as Liverpool built up an eight-point lead at the top and a nine-point lead over City after just eight matches following a 3-1 win at Anfield against Guardiola's side.

From that moment on it has been Liverpool's title to lose in many ways and such a fall from grace from Klopp's team is looking more and more unlikely as each week passes, with that elusive first Premier League title win well within grasp.

But City midfielder Silva has pinpointed the moment over the turn of the year when his side gave up on the title too early in his eyes.

"I think we got to a point one month ago where we gave up a bit too soon and that's why we're twenty-something points behind now. We shouldn't have done that and it was not on purpose," Silva told Sky Sports.

"It was in our head, everyone was disappointed to be already ten or 15 points behind and our heads went a bit down. It's difficult because we're a team used to winning and last season we won everything in England.

"It hurts a lot because when you start a new season you always want to go for the Premier League. It’s the main competition, it’s the most important competition for the fans. No one expected us to be this far from Liverpool in January or February."

Silva added: "In the important moments we’ve not been as lucky as in past seasons. We always concede in the last minute, Liverpool always score in the last minute. These little details in football make the difference."
