Bernardo Silva misses Portugal training to give Man City concern

Manchester City star Bernardo Silva sat out Portugal training on Tuesday morning ahead of their World Cup qualifier with the Republic of Ireland.

Bernardo joined up with his national team after another star performance for his club at Old Trafford on Saturday, scoring the second goal of a 2-0 win that was more dominant than the scoreline suggested. Since a summer move that the player wanted never materialised, he has rediscovered his best form under Pep Guardiola and has been one of the manager's most effective and most used players this season.

Guardiola hopes in every international break that the players return to Manchester as fit as they were when they left, and will be watching developments with Bernardo after the Portuguese Football Federation confirmed that the 27-year-old sat out training on Tuesday with myalgia, a muscle fatigue.

Portugal will train again on Wednesday morning before heading to Dublin for the match, with head coach Fernando Santos also holding a press conference on that day where he could give an update on the player's fitness.

After playing on Thursday, Portugal have a home game with Serbia on Sunday to round off their World Cup qualifying campaign; they currently sit a point behind table-topping Serbia in the group but have a game in hand before their weekend meeting.

City return to action against Everton on November 21 before a Champions League game at home to Paris Saint-Germain three days later where a win would confirm top spot in the group with a game to spare.
