Bernardo Silva gives verdict on Manchester City's Champions League chances

Bernardo Silva has revealed that Manchester City are desperate to improve their performances in Europe and has backed his teammates' abilities to secure City's first ever European Cup.

City have never progressed further than the semi-finals of the Champions League - losing narrowly to Real Madrid under Manuel Pellegrini's stewardship back in 2016.

Bernardo also reached the semi final stage in 2017, but not for Manchester City. He starred in the Monaco side that knocked City out of the competition in the round of 16 following a rollercoaster tie.

City capitulated under pressure and Monaco were able to secure passage to the latter rounds before losing to Juventus in the last four.

With City's side looking stronger than ever, Bernardo feels the time is right to secure the one major honour that isn't in the trophy cabinet.

"In a way, it's the trophy we are missing," he told mancity.com .

"Obviously, we want to keep going and keep winning things in England. The Premier League is the most important trophy by far and then obviously, the cups if we can."

While the Champions League will be harder than ever to win, with huge names such as Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in pot two for the draw, Bernardo believes City have what it takes to lift the famous trophy for the first time.

He added: "The Champions League is a special competition – it’s very difficult to win it – but we want to try and do better than the last two seasons and I think we can do it."
