Bernardo Silva gives man of the match award to Man City team-mate Phil Foden

Phil Foden scored his first Premier League goal as Manchester City claimed a crucial 1-0 win over Tottenham - and team-mate Bernardo Silva was certainly impressed with his match-winning performance.

The 18-year-old became City's third-youngest Premier League goalscorer as he headed home after just five minutes of a tense clash with Spurs, three days after their Champions League classic.

The victory took City back above Liverpool , but the downside was another injury to playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, who limped off with what looked like another knee problem before half-time.

And Silva, who was equally as impressive in the victory on Saturday, generously handed his man-of-the-match award over to his young team-mate.

Man City 1-0 Tottenham: 5 talking points as Phil Foden nets crucial Premier League winner

Following the post-match interview with Sky Sports, Silva was awarded the accolade having impressed the pundits.

But the Portuguese playmaker passed his award on to Foden, having enjoyed watching the youngster put in a match-winning performance.

“I would like to thank hand it over to Phil,” Bernardo said, as Foden tried to resist the gesture. “I honestly think he deserves it, he’s so young, he’s a fantastic player, and this one’s for you. He scored the winner, so congratulations.”

Foden, who was unexpectedly brought into the side in place of David Silva, made an immediate impact at the Etihad, and it proved crucial.

Why Hugo Lloris missed Tottenham's Premier League clash with Man City

The outstanding Silva floated a cross into the box and Sergio Aguero nodded across goal for Foden to meet with a powerful diving header at the back post.

After the game, Foden said: "Kun (Aguero) did great to head it back to me. Luckily I was on the line to head in. I am just happy to help the lads today.

"Every player I play with I look up to and try to learn from.

"It still hasn't fully sunk in. I am just happy to help the team and get the goal. It's my first Premier League goal so it will live with me forever.

"We knew what they were about because we have played them twice already. It's hard and we looked a bit leggy but we got the job done.

"It was a bit of a surprise (to start) but I am ready for whenever it comes.

"We know we have to win every game to win the Premier League. A few of the lads will watch it ( Cardiff v Liverpool) I'll watch it so we'll see what happens."
