Bernard Sumner moans about 'the f***ing Welsh' not letting him in to use his new boat

Bernard Sumner is not having a great time in lockdown after he ranted about not being able to get to his boat in Wales.

The Joy Division rock star, 64, said that "lockdown’s doing my f***ing nut in” because "the f***ing Welsh won't let me in".

The current social distancing guidelines in Wales are different to those in England - at all non-essential travel is banned between the two nations.

Wales has urged people to refrain from travelling from England as it decided to go a separate path from Boris Johnson’s plan to ease lockdown rules on travel.

And Bernard has expressed his deepest frustration at the current guidelines that have left him foaming at the mouth.

Speaking to The Times, the outspoken musician said: “I’ve got a brand new boat waiting for me in Wales and I can’t go to it because the f***ing Welsh won’t let me.

“So yeah, lockdown’s doing my f***ing nut in.”

The singer - who is also a prominent member of New Order - is now left unable to travel on his brand new boat he snapped up before lockdown measures were imposed.

When quizzed on how he's getting on in lockdown, the Manchester-based star said he would have been better off dealing with the pandemic 40 years ago back in his heyday.

The Salford-raised singer-songwriter explained: "I guess back in those days we were all pretty isolated anyway because there was nowhere to go.

"Manchester was a very, very different place."

It comes as the Foreign Secretary says the UK government has been very mindful of the need for anyone from England wanting to go to one of the other countries of the UK, like Wales, to have to follow rules there that might be different.

The Foreign Secretary said people travelling from England to Wales had been warned not to make the trips after Wales piled pressure on  Boris Johnson  not to ease the lockdown too soon.

Mr Raab said Mr Johnson had reiterated the commitment to a UK-wide approach, noting: "Even if different parts may move at slightly different speeds, the key thing is those decisions are made based on the science and the circumstances for each nation."
