Bernard's omission was sign of strength in depth Everton now have

What I really liked from Sunday's game was the determination and grit we showed to stay in the game against a tough side who I think will be fighting it out with us to try and break into the top six.

Goodison Park was bouncing with the fans right behind the lads and they delivered.

From a defensive point of view though, I thought the goals we conceded were really poor, especially the second goal when we were far too static when the ball came into the box and just like last week we were punished.

However, from an attacking point of view I thought our style of play was really clear for all to see.

I was delighted with the amount of times we got the ball wide and looked to put crosses into the box.

And obviously we scored two really good goals from it, building on the two we scored against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup last week.

You can see from the recruitment made by the club during the summer that Marco Silva is finally being able to implement his style of play.

To score three goals was fantastic, and if we are being honest we could have scored more.

Which as a supporter is really good as in pre-season there was a lot of concern about where the goals where going to come from.

Richarlison scored a really good header and not since the days of Duncan Ferguson have we had a player who is capable of hanging in the air and attacking balls in the box like he has done over the last couple of games.

Hopefully Sunday's win can now be the springboard for us and those lads heading away on international duty come back fit and raring to go against Bournemouth a week on Sunday.

Bernard omission proves strength in depth Blues squad now has

I felt on Sunday we finally saw Richarlison play to the level we all know he is capable of.

All the forwards I've ever played with our selfish, that's just the way they are, but I think for him he'll be delighted to score again.

At this club we love forwards who attack crosses as they come into the box and Richarlison has done this twice now and got his rewards.

Credit also must go to Lucas Digne, who put a fantastic ball into the box for the goal.

The big thing for Richarlison now is to improve and develop as a player.

He's still only young and has still has plenty more to offer to his game, he should be looking at what he's scored in the past and looking to improve on it.

He's an important player in the squad, but if you look at Sunday then Bernard will probably feel hard done by to be left out.

But his omission proves the strength in depth that we have at our disposal at the minute, which in football is a good thing.
