Bernard Higgins sparks furious Celtic protest as vocal Parkhead crowd send clear board message over controversial appointment plan

Celtic fans sent a firm message to the club chiefs over the potential appointment of Bernard Higgins to a role within Parkhead.

The former Police Scotland commander has been rumoured to be landing a top senior security role at Celtic Park.

Higgins was heavily involved in the creation of the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act in 2012 which Fans Against Criminalisation campaign group said it had ended trust between supporters and police.

They continued to make their point as the Premiership clash with Hearts got underway.

Loud chants of "stand up if you hate Higgins" could be heard across the stands at Celtic Park as the clash kicked off, with a majority of the crowd joining in to condemn the plans.

Banners and signs have also been placed around Parkhead in a bid to make fan voices heard.

Over 100 Celtic fan groups have told the club's board they would not co-operate with Higgins if his appointment was rubber stamped.

Viral images from across the globe have seen Hoops clubs all over the world condemn the idea of Higgins being appointed.

The latest protest comes just days supporters sectioned in the Green Brigade area refused to leave the stands following the game against Aberdeen in protest.
