Berlin sex club urges guests to see doctor after man is hospitalized with meningitis

Patrons of a famed sex club in Berlin are being encouraged to seek out medical attention for possible exposure to a deadly virus.

A man who stopped in the KitKatClub during the day last Saturday was hospitalized with bacterial meningitis, prompting city officials to issue a warning this week. The guest is in "very bad" condition and is being treated with antibiotics, according to a statement from the club, notorious for its wild and sex-themed parties.

Bacterial meningitis can be spread through saliva and close body contact, with early-onset symptoms including fever, headaches, chills and dizziness. If left untreated, the infection is often times fatal.

"No one has to worry who wasn't at the club last Saturday," KitKat said. "All employees are now asymptomatic ... so a transfer to new guests (is) excluded."

Those who did visit the club and experience any symptoms should go to "a doctor a soon as possible or go to the ER."

City officials said they did not need to shut down the club altogether as it was not the source of the infection and the site itself was not contaminated.

KitKat added that "another contagion in the club is very unlikely, according to doctors."
