Berkeley balcony survivor Aoife Beary's funeral arrangements announced

The funeral arrangements have been announced for Aoife Beary, the Dubliner who survived the tragic Berkeley balcony collapse that killed six people in June 2015.

Ms Beary, from Blackrock, passed away in Beaumont Hospital on New Year's Day after suffering a stroke.

The 27-year-old's funeral arrangements were posted online today.

She will be reposed at Massey Bros Funeral Home, 5 Newtown Park, Blackrock Co. Dublin A94 X308 on Thursday January 6th from 3.30pm to 8pm.

Her Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, 07th January 2022, at 10am in Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Foxrock followed by cremation in Newlands Cross Crematorium at 12.40pm.

The RIP.ie notice said: "Due to ongoing advice regarding public gatherings we would please ask that all Covid guidelines be adhered to."

Those who would like to watch the funeral mass online can do so here.

Aoife suffered life-changing injuries in the June 2015 accident, including a brain injury, several broken bones, and lacerations to her organs.

She underwent open heart surgery and a long period of rehabilitation in a hospital in Santa Clara between July and September 2015 and, amazingly, she was soon able to walk again.

In the years following the tragedy, Aoife went back to college in Oxford, and also began campaigning against the company that built the balcony.

Aoife is survived by her parents Mike and Angela, her younger brother Tim, her younger sister Anna, and her extended family.
