Bergwijn and Lo Celso in, no Lucas: Strongest Tottenham line up after January transfer window

The January transfer window is over and there have been a few changes made at Tottenham Hotspur.

Gedson Fernandes and Steven Bergwijn arrived from Benfica and PSV Eindhoven respectively, while Giovani Lo Celso's loan move from Real Betis was made permanent by Spurs.

Christian Eriksen left the club to join Inter Milan, after being strongly linked with a move away ever since the summer, while Danny Rose left Tottenham to join Newcastle United on loan.

Jose Mourinho currently has both Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko out until at least April with serious hamstring and knee injuries respectively, while Ben Davies has now returned to training following his ankle problem.

So what would Spurs' strongest team look like if the head coach had everyone available to call upon?

Which players would get the nod in defence and midfield and who would support Kane in the attacking areas?

Our three Tottenham writers have given their take on Mourinho's strongest line-up.

Alasdair Gold - Tottenham writer

Mourinho hinted after Bergwijn signed that the number of attacking wide players Spurs now possessed would be a mouthwatering prospect for Harry Kane when he returned.

That certainly is the case with options galore in midfield and out wide with pace, skill and creativity in many very different packages.

When everyone is fit there are choices to be made in defence and midfield.

Mourinho has stated that Ben Davies was his planned left-back all along but Japhet Tanganga has come in and impressed everyone including the Spurs boss.

While the 20-year-old might not be a natural left-back, he brings with him pace and real composure despite his age. Having him as a full-back also allows for a strong back three in possession which allows the players ahead to be more attack-minded.

In midfield, Tottenham have two big talents in Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele and Mourinho would have to decide whether the two summer signings can play as a pair or whether they need Harry Winks to sit between them.

Having a midfield three would mean losing one of the players behind Kane and it's worth remembering just how good Dele Alli is when he's playing just off the England captain. The young midfielder can also drop into the centre of midfield to help out those behind him.

Here's what I believe Spurs' strongest team is now.

Gold's strongest Spurs XI: (4-2-3-1) Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Tanganga; Lo Celso, Ndombele; Bergwijn, Alli, Son; Kane.

Jose Mourinho has plenty of options at Tottenham following the additions of Steven Bergwijn and Gedson Fernandes this month.

The head coach now has a selection headache on his hands but it is a good one to have given the players at his disposal.

Serge Aurier and Toby Alderweireld are two certainties to start in Spurs' back four, with Davinson Sanchez just getting the nod over Jan Vertonghen to partner the Belgian international in the heart of defence.

Japhet Tanganga has performed superbly at left-back but Ben Davies makes it in ahead of him in terms of a strongest XI as it is his natural position and he will be an important cog in Mourinho's backline.

Harry Winks also misses out on the team as summer signings Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele and make up a rather attacking midfield.

Dele Alli can also drop back and help if needed, although he may be better utilised in a three alongside Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn behind Harry Kane.

Goals are guaranteed in this team and it would be nice to see Mourinho line up this way down the line.

Guest's strongest Spurs XI: Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Davies; Lo Celso, Ndombele; Son, Alli, Bergwijn; Kane.

Lee Wilmot - Live editor and Tottenham fan

It pains me to name a strongest Spurs XI with Serge Aurier in it, but that is the situation we find ourselves in.

He may well have improved under Jose Mourinho but I'm not ready to jump on the bandwagon and it's a position that needs strengthening in the summer.

But for now, he makes it, alongside Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld and Ben Davies, who I think just offers that bit more experience and left-back know-how than Japhet Tanganga.

Ahead of them it's Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele - a fit Ndombele gets in every time for me, no question.

Then the trio in behind the talisman Harry Kane are Giovani Lo Celso, Dele Alli and Son Heung-min. We'll see when Steven Bergwijn takes one of those roles.

Wilmot's strongest Tottenham XI: Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Davies; Winks, Ndombele; Lo Celso, Alli, Son; Kane.
