Bergwijn and Lo Celso start, Ndombele drops out - Tottenham lineups vs Aston Villa

It is a pivotal time in the season for Jose Mourinho and Tottenham.

The return of the Champions League is on the horizon and the battle for the top four in the Premier League is hotting up.

After a winter break, Spurs return to action on Sunday with an away game against Aston Villa to contend with.

That starts a run of nine games in 34 days in three separate competitions. It is a schedule that could make or break Tottenham's season.

So how does the Portuguese set up his team for the first match in that busy schedule?

We asked out Tottenham writers and supporters to name their team for the clash at Villa Park.

Jose Mourinho on Spurs' progress under him

Tottenham start this crazy week of three games in six days and Jose Mourinho is going to have to use certain players carefully.

Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela did not return to training with their team-mates on Wednesday and even if they do return from injury before Sunday's match at Aston Villa, Mourinho must decide whether he can get by without the two Argentines this weekend to ensure they're fit for the massive two oncoming games.

It's a similar situation with Ben Davies, who is unlikely to be fit enough to play in all three matches after returning from a couple of months out with his ankle injury.

On top of that there is the fitness of Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli to take into consideration, but Steven Bergwijn is available again for selection.

Gold's team: Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Tanganga, Davies; Winks, Ndombele; Son, Alli, Bergwijn, Lucas.

Jose Mourinho could finally execute his Tottenham defensive plan this weekend with Ben Davies now back in training.

However, it's probably come too soon for him to go straight back into the side and Japhet Tanganga also doesn't deserve to be dropped after some brilliant performances.

Giovani Lo Celso, who missed out against Southampton in the FA Cup, starts providing he's fit as he is so important to Spurs now, with Steven Bergwijn coming back into the side after he was ineligible to face Saints.

This side came out on top against Man City in the league last time out and hopefully they will be able to seal another three points in their quest for the top four.

Guest's team: Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Tanganga; Winks, Lo Celso, Son, Alli, Bergwijn, Lucas.

A week and a half break to get ready for a hectic run of games.

This is where Jose Mourinho will come into his own - grabbing result after result as matches come thick and fast.

Or at least that's what we all hope will happen.

No one game is more important than the other in the coming few days, so Mourinho can't exactly rest players.

The back-line once again should speak for itself against Villa - Japhet Tanganga playing at left-back, with Ben Davies to come into the side for Leipzig on Wednesday.

Ahead of the defence I'd play Harry Winks and Giovani Lo Celso, providing he's fit, with Dele Alli, Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura behind Son Heung-min.

Wilmot's team: Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Tanganga; Winks, Lo Celso; Bergwijn, Alli, Lucas; Son.
