Bereaved woman was unwell when she produced blade in front of paramedics

A Clifton woman who produced a knife when mentally unwell has been handed hospital treatment.

Kylie Isador took the knife from her waistband when paramedics called by her partner attended the scene in Highridge Green.

She later kicked out at, but failed to make contact with, a police officer.

Isador, 33, of Alexandra Road, pleaded guilty to possessing a blade and assaulting an emergency worker on June 26.

Judge Julian Lambert imposed a Hospital Order under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act 1983.

He said two doctors agreed Isador's mental health disorder made it appropriate for her to be detained in hospital for treatment.

The judge told Isador: "You are to go to hospital.

"You are to stay in hospital until the hospital says you are ready to move back in the community.

"On your release avoid alcohol and keep taking medication."

Ellen McAnaw, prosecuting, said Isador pulled a knife from her waistband when paramedics arrived to help her.

Later, as PC Sara Holcombe searched her, Isador tensed her body before kicking out her legs, telling the police officer: "I'm going to f-ing kick you in head."

The court heard Isador failed to make contact with the officer and apologised for her actions when interviewed, explaining she had mental health difficulties in the run up to the event.

Isador told the judge bereavement had been the trigger for the incident, and the judge gave his condolences for her loss.

He also thanked the "towering achievement" of the court's mental health professional and doctors for enabling the case to be dealt with in the way it was.
