Benson Henderson confident of stopping Myles Jury in Bellator 227 main event

Former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson is confident of picking up a stoppage victory when he faces Myles Jury at Bellator 227 in Dublin this Friday.

The 27-8 fighter, who ruled Conor McGregor's current division for over a year and defended the belt three times, takes on another UFC veteran in Myles Jury in one of two main events at the 3 Arena .

And speaking with the Irish Mirror ahead of the bout, Henderson dismissed the challenges 'Fury' Jury poses, saying: "If this were strictly a boxing fight, I would beat him there.

"If it were a jiu-jitsu contest gi or no-gi, I'd beat him at that.

"If it were a wrestling match in singlets, I'd beat him there and I'm about to prove that in an MMA fight, I would beat him also."

The pair will headline the Sky Sports portion of the card, which airs on a tape delay at 2 AM Irish time on Saturday morning.

And asked where Jury could beat him, Henderson added: "I don't think Myles' skillset is better than mine in any area

"I'm mentally stronger than he is as well and it's up to me to go show that on Friday night and I intend on stopping this before the fifteen minute bell is rung."

And while still confident in his abilities, the debuting Myles Jury was a bit more respectful of his opponent, admitting: "On paper, Benson Henderson is probably the best fighter I've faced.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge of what he brings to the table."

Both fighters have claimed that they will be pushing for a title opportunity should they get the result on Friday night.

And with double champion Patrício Freire defending his featherweight belt the following evening, the timing adds up for a potential shot for the winner by the end of this year or early 2020.

Tickets for Bellator Dublin are on sale now through Ticketmaster.ie  and  Bellator.com , as well as the 3Arena box office.
