Benoit Blanc took to Sesame Street to solve a Knives Out mystery

Knives Out finally crossover with Sesame Street and the Internet is abuzz. As Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery gets ready to head home for the holidays, Netflix gave the web what they’ve been asking for. Sesame Street‘s colorful band of characters got introduced to Benoit Blanc in a delightful social media video. The famed sees talk a little shop with those many-hued puppets. If that premise speaks to you, go ahead and check the video out down below, you’ll be glad you did.

Sesame Street It’s technically a different group of Muppets than the ones that the Internet typically requests in a Knives Out adventure. But, these days beggars can’t be choosers. Once this video hit the timeline, everybody celebrated a long awaited moment. After all, it’s not every day that you get literal puppets crossing over with the most popular mystery franchise money right now.

A new muppet named Beignet Blanc is hot on the trail of a new mystery. “Who Ate Cookie Monster’s Pie?” is a caper that all of us can get behind. Naming this entry “Forks Out” also deserves some applause too.

Now, with the Internet after this exact crossover for so long, we might be wondering has Rian Johnson heard all the Internet shatter? Hysterically, as the universe can sometimes still do, the director was asked about the idea of a Muppets and Knives Out crossover literally this week. THR sat down with a filmmaker to talk about a bunch of stuff. They had to ask about the motives, and His responses might surprise you a little bit.

“On the Internet, the notion of a Knives Out Muppet movie comes up a lot, and I wanted to get you guys together here so that I could explain why that’s a bad idea,” Johnson began. “It’s not a ‘bad idea,’ but I love and respect Muppet movies too much, and also Benoit Blanc movies. They’re so different. The reality is, if you put Muppets in a Benoit Blanc movie, it would feel totally wrong because they would be getting murdered.”

This might be the best excuse for why this heavily requested crossover hasn’t actually happened yet. People do die in Knives Out. It’s kind of the point of the first movie, and lamp shaded to the point of oblivion in Glass Onion, But, for people who still want some kind of Muppets action, Johnson does have a pretty good substitution on deck, if you’re interested.

Will there be a real Sesame Street crossover?

Johnson added, “The alternative is to just stick Benoit Blanc into a Muppet movie, which admittedly would be very fun, but would kind of break the reality of what Blanc is… Which is all to say: I would just love to do a regular awesome Muppet movie!”

And so, we inch ever closer to a world where Johnson directs a Muppet movie at some point. That’s probably not going to happen considering his standing with Netflix. But, in this era of wild media consolidation and uncertainty, nothing is truly off limits. For now, let’s enjoy Sesame Street and a good mystery.
