Benny Cunningham says he feels like Jacksonville will be home for him

Despite the first phase of free agency being over, the Jacksonville Jaguars have stayed busy by adding multiple pieces to their offense during the second wave. One of those players included former Chicago Bears tailback Benny Cunningham, who the team signed Tuesday afternoon to help sure up the position behind Leonard Fournette. And despite not being in Jacksonville long, the veteran tailback told Jaguars.com that he’s already felt a warm welcome and believes the team has what it takes to win a Super Bowl.

“I’m just excited to have the opportunity,” Cunningham said. “I feel like this place will be home for me. I’m excited to get started. […] “There are pieces in place that this team can win the Super Bowl. I just want to be part of something special.”

Cunningham, 27, would know a thing or two about what a good roster looks like after coming off a 2018 Bears roster that went to the playoffs for the first time since 2010. Unfortunately, his team didn’t make it out of the first round after losing to a former teammate from his time with the St. Louis Rams in quarterback Nick Foles and the Philadelphia Eagles in the wildcard round this past January. Now, just months later, it appears Cunningham has left the postseason lost in the past and it ready to once again do battle with his old friend in Foles.

“I can’t wait to call Nick, talk to him and catch up,” he told Jaguars.com

Cunningham will come into a situation where he’ll be battling players like Dimitri Flowers, David Williams and Thomas Rawls for the No. 3 tailback spot previously held by Corey Grant. Something that could aid him in that process is his abilities on special teams, which was his bread and butter prior to signing with Jacksonville.
