Benjamin Siegrist open to Celtic switch as Dundee United stopper targets summer Tannadice exit

Benjamin Siegrist has opened the door to a move to Celtic as he admitted he was looking to take the 'next step' in his career.

The Swiss stopper has been a standout for Dundee United this season but has been hampered at Tannadice since picking up a wrist injury in April.

The 29-year-old has previously been linked with a switch to Parkhead with goalkeeper proving to be a problem position last season.

Vasilis Barkas has failed to hold down a regular starting spot since his £5million move from AEK Athens, with Scott Bain and Conor Hazard also being given a chance between the sticks.

Siegrist told Blick that he is keen to move on this summer and refused to rule out a switch to United's Premiership rivals.

When asked about his future in the City of Discovery, he said: “I don't want to force a change, but I am already aiming for the next step in my career.”

When pressed about a move to Celtic, he added: “If there is interest, I'll take a close look."

Celtic face a major rebuild this summer with Eddie Howe set to be appointed as manager this week.

Odsonne Edouard, Kris Ajer and Ryan Christie could be leaving the club as they near the end of their contracts, and Howe will surely be considering his defensive options in Glasgow's east end.
