Benjamin Netanyahu reveals he hid an alarming news from the world. But his decision to go public now labelled deliberate

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, 76, has announced on social media that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and has made a full recovery. The news comes after Netanyahu made a deliberate choice to keep his diagnosis private until he felt the time was right to share it.

During a routine checkup roughly a year and a half after surgery for an enlarged prostate, doctors found a malignant tumor “of less than a centimeter” on Netanyahu’s prostate. The cancer had not spread to other parts of the body. Netanyahu noted in his post that this type of diagnosis is very common for people his age.

According to Politico, Netanyahu requested a two-month delay in the publication of his annual medical report “so as not to allow the terrorist regime in Iran to spread more false propaganda against Israel” during the early phase of the U.S. and Israel’s joint operation against Iran. He wanted to avoid giving the Iranian regime any opportunity to use his health condition against Israel.

Netanyahu’s cancer announcement carries clear strategic intent amid Iran tensions

Netanyahu’s announcement comes as the U.S. and Israel are managing a fragile ceasefire in their conflict involving Iran. Israel has said it is prepared to resume fighting if negotiations fail. Only 10 percent of Israelis called the campaign a significant success in an April poll released after the ceasefire first took hold.

Reflecting on how he handled his diagnosis, Netanyahu drew a direct comparison to his approach in national security. “When I am given timely information about a possible threat, I want to deal with it immediately,” he wrote. “This is true on a national level as well as on a personal level. That’s what I did.” Netanyahu has also been vocal about other sensitive issues on social media, often using it as a platform to shape public perception during critical moments.

The ceasefire, announced after talks in Washington, is set to expire soon. The U.S. has offered to extend it by three weeks following fresh discussions between envoys from both countries in Washington. Netanyahu’s broader goals in the region, including his push for oil and gas routes through Israel, continue to shape his strategic decisions during the ongoing conflict.

The broader conflict between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah has caused significant casualties. According to the Lebanese health ministry, at least 2,294 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Lebanon since the latest war began, including 274 women and 177 children.

Hezbollah attacks have killed two civilians in Israel, while Israeli authorities say 15 Israeli soldiers have been killed in combat in Lebanon. Netanyahu’s decision to go public now has drawn mixed reactions. Some have praised him for being open about his health, while others have questioned the timing and motives behind the announcement. However, it is clear that the decision was made with the ongoing regional conflict firmly in mind.
