Benjamin Mendy's cryptic Twitter response to Manchester City signing announcement

Manchester City star Benjamin Mendy had an interesting response to his side’s official Twitter account, after they announced a brand new signing.

The Citizens are in the process of finalising a deal for Juventus right-back Joao Cancelo with Danilo heading to Turin in exchange as Pep Guardiola looks to strengthen his options on the right.

With City tweeting out a signing announcement, fans were quick to assume the deal has been officially completed. However, it was instead introducing the latest addition to the Manchester City women's team - Lee Guem-Min.

Mendy wasted no time welcoming the new signing to Manchester and posed a question which is sure to interest plenty of City supporters.

“Welcome here!” Mendy tweeted before adding “did you see a Portuguese right back in the corridors?”

City fans were quick to praise the Frenchman’s joke, labelling the full-back as an “amazing human” with one fan asking the former Monaco man to “marry him”.

Cancelo is expected to provide cover on the right flank as he is capable of playing as a full back or a winger. The Portugal international is also comfortable on the left meaning he may end up in direct competition with Mendy during the upcoming season.

Earlier in the week, the French international confirmed that he was nearing a return to full fitness after needing surgery to mend a knee injury he sustained at the end of last season.

The MEN understands he is expected to miss the first couple of fixtures in the Premier League season before returning to the fold to fight for his place in the City starting XI.
