Elvis Presley's grandson Benjamin Keough died by suicide, a coroner had confirmed.

Mr Keough, 27, was found dead in Calabasas, California, on Sunday.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office ruled on Tuesday that suicide was the manner of Mr Keough's death and the cause was listed as a shotgun wound.

Roger Widynowski, the representative of Mr Keough's mother Lisa Marie Presley, said she was “heartbroken” after learning about the death of her son.

Mr Widynowski said in a statement: “She is completely heartbroken, inconsolable and beyond devastated but trying to stay strong for her 11-year-old twins and her oldest daughter Riley.

“She adored that boy. He was the love of her life.”

Nancy Sinatra tweeted her condolences to Ms Presley, writing: “I have known you since before your mama gave birth to you, never dreaming you would have pain like this in your life. I’m so very sorry.”

Mr Keough's grandmother Priscilla Presley, 75, married Elvis in 1967, but they divorced six years later.

Their only daughter Lisa Marie was born in 1968. Elvis died nine years later in 1977, aged 42.

Ms Presley had previously spoken of her son's similarity to her father Elvis, calling their resemblance "uncanny".
