Believers in love, please take a deep breath. Benito Skinner — better known to the internet as Benny Drama — has confirmed he and photographer Terrence O’Connor (Terry) have called it quits after nine years together. And DearMedia, don’t clip that!
The comedian broke the news on the October 22 episode of his RIDE podcast, which he co‑hosts with his dear friend (and queen of the Baronies) Mary Beth Barone.
In the episode, Benito said plainly, “Terry and I are no longer together,” confirming their breakup was entirely amicable.
“We both just love each other so much and have so much love and respect for each other, and we treated each other with love and respect until the end,” he told listeners.
“I feel so unbelievably lucky to have met him and be a part of his family — I love his family. I love the cousins,” Benito said on the episode, adding that their relationship shaped his entire twenties. “We grew up together,” he said, calling Terrence’s support “genius-level”.
If you’ve listened to RIDE for even a minute, you know that Terry was lowkey an invisible third host. Over the years, Benito’s “Terry mention” anecdotes became an unofficial segment, so fans reacting with heartbreak makes sense.
But Benny, ever the internet philosopher, reminded everyone that their story is one about love, not loss.
“If us breaking up makes you stop believing in love, it should be the opposite,” he said.
“I was with someone so special to me for nine years — in a committed relationship with my best friend.”
Classic Benny fashion — he still managed to slip in a bit of levity: “I did make him promise never to date anyone younger than me,” he joked. “He spit-shook on it.”
The Overcompensating creator said he’ll always consider Terrence “a friend of this pod — Grandpa Terry forever”.
Terrence hasn’t spoken publicly about the breakup yet, but I have a feeling that we’ll be hearing about it in his weekly pop culture updates on TikTok.
He previously shared with Nylon earlier this year that he instantly knew he was going to marry Benito when they met at a party in 2016.
“I really had a That’s So Raven moment where I was immediately like, ‘I’m going to marry him,’ ” he told the outlet at the time.
“He told me he wanted to be an actor. I was like, ‘I don’t know how I could help you become an actor, but maybe we could try to get you a following on Instagram?’”
The two were recently spotted together in Italy celebrating Charli xcx’s wedding to George Daniel — a guest list that also included Troye Sivan, Julia Fox, and Matty Healy. Terry was one of the creative geniuses and photographers behind the iconic brat era and Charli appeared in an episode of Benito’s Overcompensating, so the group are v close.
So yes, it’s officially the end of one of the internet’s most loved couples, but if you listen closely, it doesn’t sound like heartbreak. It sounds like growth, and for that we have to ride miluvs!!
