Benidorm returning as a film - a year after it was cancelled by ITV

A year after Benidorm fans across the country were left heartbroken over the news the hit series had been cancelled, it has been revealed that it will be making a huge comeback - as a film.

Actress Sherrie Hewson, who played Joyce Temple-Savage in the sitcom, revealed the exciting news that filming would start next year.

The show, written and created by Derren Litten, left viewers in hysterics for 11 years until it was cancelled last year.

Sherrie told The Sun Online this week that "Benidorm will never die" and that a film was in the works and there could also be a tour.

She said: "We'll make it next year. We used to go out at the beginning of March and finish at the end of July and a film will only take eight weeks so it'll be good."

Gushing about the "wonderful show", she said that she loved her character and everyone in it and that they still kept in touch.

"Benidorm's a kind of a phenomenon really because there's never been anything like it and there won't be ever again," Sherrie said.

"People would come out for a week and end up staying for the entire time because it's so much fun."

Sherrie's character Joyce was the outspoken manager at the Solana, who joined in series five.

Benidorm received six NTAs and a BAFTA during its 11-year run and featured an all-star cast including Johnny Vegas, who played Geoff Maltby, and Tim Healey as Les/ Lesley.
