Benidorm busker claims he's met Alan Shearer and dedicates song to Newcastle United legend

The last night of a bunch of Newcastle holidymakers' trip to Benidorm was made by a Spanish busker just as the whole resort was effectively put into lockdown.

Geordie lads Anth Milburn,. Stuart Egan, Brett Wilkinson and Robbie Wilkinson have been over in the Costa Blanca for Cheltenham Festival week, watching loads of live horse racing action in Benidorm's many pubs and bars.

Just as they were packing to return home to Newcastle, the news broke that all of the resorts pubs, bars and restaurants would be forced to close for 15 days from midnight on Friday, leaving business owners, cabaret acts and holidaymakers absolutely gutted.

But one person who managed to raise a smile as Benidorm venues braced themselves for the shock lockdown was busker Billy, or Billy from the Bigg Market, as he named himself after discovering where Anth and his mates were from.

After treating the boys to a VERY enthusiastic version of The Blaydon Races , Billy then told them he'd once met Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer and he'd asked him to play a song for him.

Now, while we can only wait for Alan to confirm if that is in fact true, one thing you can't deny is that the song in question - La Bamba - is an absolute classic!

And just like he did with The Blaydon Races, Billy gave it his all on his guitar, as you can watch in the video at the top of the story, taken by Anth.

Anth and his pals are returning home at the right time as many of Benidorm's famous bars including Morgan's Tavern and The Black Chicken have shared their upset at having to close for 15 days as a result of the rapid spread of coronavirus in regions of Spain.

And Jet2 have cancelled all flights to Spain , with some planes turning back to the UK mid-flight.

As he was waiting to fly home Anth told ChronicleLive: "Everyone is gutted; especially the people who travelled over for this weekend. The airport is packed."
