Bengaluru: Two ragpickers nabbed; Rs 20 lakh booty seized

BENGALURU: Two ragpickers have been arrested on burglary charges and stolen booty worth Rs 20 lakh recovered from them.

Police said they are first-time offenders — Sameer Deon, 25, from West Bengal, and Mohammed Deenu, 22, from Delhi, both residents of Chikkabanavara. The duo entered a house at Sidedahalli near Bagalagunte — which was locked for several days — through the balcony door. They decamped with gold jewellery worth over Rs 20 lakh and kept the booty in their shed.

Police said house owner NS Vishwanatha, executive with a private firm, and his wife had gone to Delhi on May 3. He was informed about the theft by his neighbour on May 9. Vishwanatha returned to the city and filed a police complaint. Police identified the suspects with the help of CCTV footage. The teenagers confessed to the crime and told police they had also stolen an autorickshaw last month. Cops seized 390 grams of gold and the auto.
