BENGALURU: A rowdy-sheeter who was arrested after he allegedly raped a woman and fled police custody was shot at and injured when he tried to attack DJ Halli policemen on Saturday.
The suspect is Mohd Awaiz, 23, of Shampura. A police team headed by sub-inspector Nagadeva G Torke gathered information about Awaiz’s presence near Nagawara and rushed to the spot around 4.30am. Awaiz assaulted constable Arun with a knife and in self-defence, Torke opened fire and shot him in his right leg.
