BENGALURU: A 30-year-old garment businessman was arrested for allegedly taking nude pictures of a woman and extorting money from her.
The accused is Abhishek alias Sushanth Jain, a resident of HSR Layout and from Chhattisgarh.
According to police, the 28-year-old woman lives in an apartment in Kodigehalli. She got to know Jain through a dating app on January 29. He subsequently collected her Instagram/Telegram account details and her mobile number. He tried to place a video call, which she rejected.
Jain again contacted her on February 1 and said he wanted to marry her. He took down her address and met her at her flat. He demanded sexual favours and managed to convince her to remove her clothes. He took her pictures without her knowledge, police said.
“Within a few minutes of leaving her flat, he asked her to transfer money to his account as he needed to purchase a mobile charger. She transferred Rs 3,450 using a digital payment app. Later, he sent her some of the nude pictures and demanded Rs 8,000. He threatened to share the photos with her friends and family if she refused,” a police officer said.
The woman approached Kodigehalli police, who registered a case under IPC section 354B (assault or use of criminal force against a woman with the intention of disrobing her), 384 (extortion), and a few sections of Information Technology Act. Jain was traced to his residence in HSR Layout and arrested.
Preliminary probe revealed that he had committed similar offences previously and extorted other women. Police sent his mobile phone for forensic investigation.
