BENGALURU: A 55-year-old security guard heading to book a hall for his daughter’s engagement succumbed to the burns he suffered after an electric transformer exploded on NICE Road near Jnanabharati on Wednesday afternoon. The daughter, who was riding pillion, is battling for life.
Shivaraj was riding towards JP Nagar with daughter Chaitanya, 18, who had joined a private firm after completing her II PU and was to be engaged on March 27, family members said.
“Shivaraj wanted to book a mini-hall for Chaintanya’s marriage. He was passing next to the transformer located in Vishweshwaraiah Layout when it exploded. Labourers working in nearby under-construction sites alerted police. The father and daughter were shifted to Victoria Hospital and Shivaraj succumbed to injuries at night,” an investigating officer said.
Jnanabharati police booked unidentified staffers and others from Bescom under IPC section 304A (Causing death due to negligence).
Residents claimed that they had repeatedly complained about the faulty transformer but in vain. The loose wires may have melted due to the heat, igning the transformer, sources said.
