BENGALURU: In yet another sterling performance, Bengaluru region logged 99.83 pass percentage in CBSE Class 12 in the results announced on Friday afternoon. Bengaluru region, that consists only of Karnataka state, stood third after Trivandrum (99.89%) and Delhi West and East (99.84% each) in the country.
While the exam was cancelled due to the pandemic, marks were based on last three years’ academic performance. The national average is 99.37%. Last year, when the exam was held, the pass percentage was 88.78%. While Bengaluru region bettered itself from last year’s 97.05%, it fell by one place to third position.
The big jump in nationallevel pass percentage could be because regions like Patna and others — Prayagaraj, Dehradun, Guwahati and Noida — that had only 74% and less than 85% students passing, respectively, had more than 98% pass percentage this time.
Nationally, over 13 lakh students registered for the exam and 12.9 lakh passed. While 6,149 students were placed in compartment (failed), girls fared better than boys by 0.54 percentage points. Transgender students scored 100% pass results. More than 70,000 children — 5.3% of all students who wrote the exam — secured more than 95% across the country. Last year, only 3.2% students got marks in this range. The number of kids who secured between 90% and 95% is 1.5 lakh. Last year, 13% got marks in this range, while it’s 11.5% this year.
Kendriya Vidyalayas and Central Tibetan School Administration secured 100% results, an improvement from last year. Jawahar Navodayas have 99.94% and government schools 99.72%. The pass percentage among children with special needs is 99.59%.
Compartment exam will be held between August 16 and September 15. Students unhappy with the exam can take it, apart from compartment students and private candidates. CBSE will set up a committee to resolve disputes about marks. CBSE said almost all schools adopted the assessment policy and adhered to it completely.
