BENGALURU: A 27-year-old man who had broken into a home near Sarjapur was caught by the family members living there and later handed over to police.
The suspected thief, armed with a machete, entered the villa in Ittanguru village at around 4.30am on Saturday. Cops later identified him as Sunil Kumar, a resident of Denkanikottai, Tamil Nadu.
Police said he entered the villa belonging to Vamadeva Sharma, who along with his wife, son and daughter-in-law lived there.
The suspect jumped the compound wall and later climbed into the villa. He entered through a balcony door. The noise awoke Vamadeva’s daughter-in-law, who immediately alerted her husband Shivaraj Sharma and her in-laws.
Shivaraj, an engineer, filed the complaint about the incident. He told police that the suspect had threatened his family with a machete and asked them to give him valuables at home. Vamadeva sustained injuries on his fingers as the miscreant allegedly attacked him with the machete.
Police said that Vamadeva’s family members eventually overpowered the suspect and snatched the machete. Neighbours rushed to their rescue and informed police about the incident. Sarjapura police rushed to the spot and took Kumar into custody.
Police, who noticed injuries all over Kumar’s body, took him to a nearby hospital for treatment. Head constable Mahesh Kumar filed a case against unknown miscreants for allegedly assaulting Kumar. Further probe is on.
