Bengaluru: Disability never deterred him, say Ahmed’s friends

BENGALURU: The 65-year-old specially abled person, who was killed on Monday after his special scooter toppled on a jagged stretch in Sir M VisvesvarayaLayout near Ullal, west Bengaluru, had inspired his friends and acquaintances by not letting his disability deter him through his life.

“I have lost a great friend and guide in my life,” said Tanveer Pasha, who had been looking up to Khurshid Ahmed (in pic), for over 20 years. “Ahmed was a nice person, he was loved by all,” said Pasha, Ahmed’s close family friend.

Pasha, who migrated from Haryana to Benglauru two decades ago, lived at Bismillah Nagar, Mico Layout. He taught at a local madrassa, where he met Ahmed 15 years ago and they grew close soon after.

The accident happened on Manganahalli Main Road. Kamakshipalya police said Ahmed may not have noticed the damaged stretch in the dark. While Ahmed was flung into the air, the vehicle toppled and landed on him, injuring him in the head. He is survived by four daughters and two sons.

Ahmed retired from his teaching job five years ago and began selling Islamic literature. “He never felt he was specially abled, though one of his legs was longer than the other, and he had to wear special shoes. But nothing stopped him,” said Pasha.

Two years ago, MLAs Rizwan Arshad and Soumya Reddy gifted Ahmed a special scooter and he was unstoppable after that, recalled Pasha.

“He would keep all the books, Taqiyah and Miswak among others things, in the vehicle and go places to sell them,” he added.

His body was taken to Haryana where the last rites were performed on Wednesday.
