BENGALURU: College faculty R Ashwini, 35, was heartbroken when she lost her mangalsutra after a visit to a Magadi Road shopping mall on June 25.
A resident of Basaveshwaranagar, Ashwini and her husband went to the mall the next day and made a futile attempt to find the gold chain. The shop manager and other staff joined her in the search that went on for over 10 hours. While leaving, she shared her contact number with shop manager Mrityunjaya and asked him to call her if he found anything.
“As days passed, I was losing hope. I visited KP Agrahara and Magadi Road stations to file a complaint. They said since it was a lost item, I would have to file a case on the ‘e-lost’ app. I did that too,” Ashwini told TOI.
However, a call from the shop manager on July 10 brought glad tidings. “I was told the chain had been found and was asked to come to the shop immediately,” Ashwini said.
A couple — police constable Anjim SM and his wife Manjula — was waiting for her. Anjim had found the chain in the shop a few minutes earlier when he had come there with Manjula earlier in the evening.
Anjim, who works as gunman for medical education and health minister K Sudhakar, said the chain was stuck inside the label of a T-shirt kept for sale. No one seemed to have touched the T-shirt for 15 days till Anjim lifted it to check its size and price. When the chain fell down, Anjim asked Mrityunjaya if any woman had lost her mangalsutra.
An elated Ashwini has written to the city police commissioner, highlighting the cop’s generous gesture.
