BENGALURU: A constable attached with HSR Layout traffic police will face a departmental inquiry for allegedly stopping vehicles for document verification without keeping his body-worn camera in record mode on July 15 near Ecospace, Bellandur.
The departmental action was initiated based on the findings of a preliminary inquiry by DCP (traffic, east) Kala Krishnaswamy. A motorist tweeted about the traffic policeman stopping two-wheelers for document verification near Ecospace. The Twitter user tagged DG&IGP Praveen Sood, city police commissioner CH Pratap Reddy and joint commissioner of police (traffic) BR Ravikanthe Gowda in his post.
Gowda asked Kala Krishnaswamy to conduct an inquiry. “It is verified. Body-worn camera was not in recording mode. Departmental action is initiated. It is reiterated that no one will be stopped for document verification,” Gowda tweeted on Monday.
According to sources, the constable gave a statement to the DCP that he had noticed a pillion rider not wearing a helmet and stopped the vehicle. “But there was no proof for his claim. His camera was not in record mode and he did not book the pillion rider... So, we have initiated a departmental inquiry against him,” a traffic cop said. tnn
