BENGALURU: A huge branch of a roadside tree fell in the compound of a house in Vidyaranyapura, north Bengaluru, on Tuesday morning, triggering panic. A car driver who had moved away from the spot just a few moments earlier had a miraculous escape.
Civic authorities cleared the branch after a two-hour operation. The incident unfolded in the compound of a house at 3rd Cross in BEL Layout, Vidyaranyapura around 10am. Lingaraju, who works as a driver with the household, had taken out the car and parked it under the tree for cleaning earlier in the morning. After cleaning the vehicle, he had just stepped away when the branch came crashing down.
“We heard a loud noise and came rushing out to find that a big branch of the tree standing on the street and spread across the house had broken and fallen inside the compound. Lingaraju was visibly shaken as it happened seconds after he had left the spot,” said Dhanush Reddy, a neighbour.
Reddy recalled that a teenage girl in the house remained inside when the branch fell, while her parents had gone out. “It all happened suddenly. We were shocked to see the branch and leaves covering the neighbour’s compound,” said Mani, Reddy’s mother.
A BBMP team and civil defence personnel rushed to the house, located behind a Canara Bank branch. While the driver was pacified by locals, the team sawed off the fallen branch in a bid to clear the accident spot.
