BENGALURU: Work on Challaghatta Metro depot is likely to commence soon with the RITES–Power Mech Projects joint venture (JV) on Monday emerging as the lowest bidder to construct the depot and workshop.
Sources said the JV had quoted Rs 499.4 crore against BMRCL’s estimate of Rs 517.4 crore. Spread across 40 acres near Mysuru Road, the depot will be crucial for train operations on the Purple Line. It will serve trains along with the upcoming Kadugodi depot.
The existing Byappanahalli depot will be repurposed for Blue Line (ORR-KIA) Metro trains.
Officials said they will soon issue a work order to the firm and it is likely to be completed in two years.
