Bengaluru: Alumni to raise Rs 30 crore for University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering

BENGALURU: The University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) Graduates Association plans to raise Rs 20 crore to Rs 30 crore for the all-around development of UVCE in the next two-three years.

Srikanth M, an alumnus of the 1993 electronics batch working as a senior director at an MNC, said: “We intend to raise the funds from the alumni community and well-wishers of UVCE. We will be organising an event exclusively for the alumni shortly.”

Apart from this, the association is building a strong alumni network with around 1,000 registered lifetime members and has already donated an R&D lab with equipment worth Rs 10 lakh. It is also awarding scholarships worth Rs 10 lakh. The members of the association thanked the government for granting autonomous status to UVCE. The association, which has a network of more than 6,000 members, said its goal was to revive the historical glory of UVCE.

Former scientific advisory to the ministry of defence, VK Aatre, an alumnus from the 1961 electrical batch, said: “We had some of the best faculty like prof BR Narayan Iyengar during our time. After the 80s, UVCE lost its sheen due to various reasons, one of them being private colleges getting more importance.”

He urged for greater government support in improving the institution and said the alumni network is always there to extend their goodwill.

“There’s a need to build a campus. We request the government to give complete freedom and financial support to develop a revamped curriculum, an empowered faculty, acquire latest lab equipment, and work towards greater collaborations with industry and foreign universities for boosting research and promote entrepreneurship,” he said.
