BENGALURU: Panic prevailed among residents after a 30-ft sinkhole appeared at KG Halli near Arabic College on Thursday morning.
“At 7.30am on Thursday, during tunnelling work by TBM Bhadra, a sinkhole appeared at about 100m from Venkateshpura Metro UG station towards Tannery Road Metro station. It appears that this was an old open well, which was closed and on which the building exists,” said BL Yashwanth Chavan, BMRCL chief public relations officer.
The building has a chicken shop on the ground floor and a family of five was residing on the first floor. To ensure safety, the shop has been closed and the family has been provided accommodation near Nagawara, he added.
BMRCL on Thursday conducted controlled blasting activity near Langford Town on Hosur Road for construction of the underground Metro corridor. Officials said blasting is done only during the day without causing inconvenience to residents.
