Bengaluru: 3 labourers drown in lake while swimming

BENGALURU: Three daily wage workers who went for a swim at Dodda Gubbi lake in Kothanur, northeastern part of city, on Thursday afternoon, drowned. In all, five men, all residents of Saraipalya in Hennur, had visited the waterbody at 1pm for a swim, said police.

The three who drown are Imran Khan, Mubarak Pasha and Sahil Ahmed, all aged 18. Their friends Abdur Rehman and Shahid, both carpenters, swam back to safety.

"We got into the water and started playing. After an hour or so, Mubarak slipped and the two others who tried to pull him back too drowned," Abdur told police.

Seeing Abdur and Shahid shout for help, the public rushed towards the lake. "But there was no sign of the three. We immediately called police,," eyewitnesses told police.

A five-member team were pressed into action. "We could not find anyone till evening. We will resume the operation on Friday morning," said police official. tnn
