BENGALURU: A 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly robbing an Australian who was on a business visit to the city. The incident took place at Govindapura in east Bengaluru in the wee hours of June 23.
The victim, Aso Hamzehei, hails from Sydney and runs a tech company. He had come to Bengaluru to open two back-end offices - one at Manyata Tech Park and another at Shivajinagar.
In his complaint, he stated: "I flew down to Bengaluru in May for business purposes. I checked into a hotel in Govindapura and would visit my offices at Manyata Tech Park and Shivajinagar. Around 2.30am on June 23, the hotel staff asked me to pay the room rent and I replied that I would do so online. But they insisted on cash and five staff members attacked me."
He added: "Three men from another room came out. I said I wanted to file a police complaint against the hotel staff. They promised to take me to the police station, but ended up taking me on their two-wheeler to a desolate place and robbing me of two mobiles, Rs 4,000, and other valuables amounting to Rs 1.8 lakh."
DCP (east) Bheemashankar Guled said one of the suspects, Syed Imran, 35, a rowdy-sheeter from Shivajinagar, has been arrested and hunt is on for the others. The muggers, who did odd jobs, were partying in the hotel, he said.tnn
