Bengals worked out five players, signed one to practice squad

The Cincinnati Bengals announced the signing of linebacker Brady Sheldon to the practice squad Tuesday.

Sheldon, an undrafted free agent in 2017 out of Ferris State University, spent time with Oakland before joining Cleveland and Green Bay practice squads and replaces Greg Mabin, who was promoted to the active roster on Oct. 30.

Perhaps more interesting is the other four names the Bengals worked out, per the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson: Adonis Alexander, Dewayne Hendrix, Chris Odom, Raymond Davison.

Alexander, a cornerback, was a sixth-round supplemental pick by Washington in 2018. Dewayne Hendrix, a defensive end, flashed massive upside in the preseason with Miami but was cut from the practice squad on Oct. 7.

Linebacker Chris Odom has floated around the league since 2017 and last popped up with Washington, getting cut on Oct. 8. Another linebacker, Raymond Davison, was cut by Kansas City during cut-down days at the end of August.

If nothing else, this shows the Bengals remain on the hunt for defensive talent and hit on some due diligence here by filling a practice squad spot with upside.

Given how vicious the injury bug has been this year, Sheldon could be on the active roster soon enough and these other names are guys to keep in mind.
