Bengals will keep CB Eli Apple as starter with Trae Waynes out

The Cincinnati Bengals have had their fair share of hits and misses among free agents and veteran players this season.

Eli Apple maybe hasn’t been fully on either end of that spectrum, but perhaps has been closer to a miss than a hit.

Apple has been inconsistent at best while filling in for Trae Waynes, who is still working his way back from a hamstring injury. Apple has 36 tackles this season but has been beaten pretty badly at times, including allowing a 60-yard touchdown to Browns WR Donovan Peoples-Jones.

Even with recent additions Tre Flowers and Vernon Hargreaves III, head coach Zac Taylor still has faith in Apple and is seemingly continuing to roll with him in the starting lineup.

It’s fair to wonder how much longer of a leash Apple will have, especially in a key game this week against the Las Vegas Raiders. This is one story that will be very interesting to watch develop.
