Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green likely out Week 1 vs. Seahawks

Training camps across the league are underway, and while practices have been made increasingly safer for the players, terrible injuries are still an unfortunate reality. The first big name of the summer to suffer a major blow is Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green.

It was announced Saturday that the Cincinnati superstar went down with a leg injury at practice. What was originally thought to be an ankle sprain is turning out to be much worse, as ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter reported Green has torn ligaments in his left ankle and is expected to miss multiple weeks . . . including Week 1 against the Seahawks in Seattle.

Green is one of the premier pass catchers in the NFL today, and losing him for any amount of time is certainly a considerable blow for the Bengals. However, Cincinnati’s loss could be Seattle’s gain.

The Seahawks are 0-2 against the Bengals in their last two meetings, losing one in Seattle and one in Cincinnati. In both these games, Green was a force to be reckoned with, even against the Legion of Boom at the height of its power. Green had a field day logging a combined 10 receptions for 141 yards and a touchdown.

Seattle’s secondary proved to be much better than many expected in 2018, but there are still plenty of question marks across the board for the group. Not having to face such a prominent wide receiver right off the bat in Week 1 would be quite advantageous for the new-look LOB.
