Bengals were hunting for QBs on the waiver wire

It turns out the Cincinnati Bengals were on the hunt for a quarterback during the initial waiver wire period after trimming the roster to 53 players.

That would make sense, as the team only has Brandon Allen behind Joe Burrow and would probably like to house a third emergency option on the practice squad.

According to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, the Bengals appeared to have two guys in mind: “They went looking Tuesday, but one got claimed and they kicked the tires on the guy that lit them up in Sunday’s preseason finale, Reid Sinnett, but he went back to Miami’s practice squad.”

Sinnett clearly impressed the Bengals during the preseason finale, if that’s the case. The only notable claim was the Dallas Cowboys claiming Will Grier, a 2019 third-round pick. Most other notables passed through waivers and re-signed with other practice squads.

If the subjects are indeed Sinnett and Grier, it speaks to the team’s desire to have a third quarterback be a developmental long-term type similar to Ryan Finley.

As of now, the Bengals have the 16th spot still open on the practice squad, so it’s likely to be a passer.
