Bengals’ website trades down and picks elite weapon in new mock draft

Thanks to recent pro days, Florida tight end Kyle Pitts seems like a distant third for the Cincinnati Bengals with the fifth overall pick.

Both LSU wideout Ja’Marr Chase and Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell seem like obvious choices right now.

But that doesn’t stop mock drafts from mixing things up.

Over at Bengals.com, a media mock has the team trading out of the fifth spot with Carolina, moving down to eight. Chase goes sixth to Miami and Sewell goes seventh to Detroit, putting the Bengals in a tough spot.

Geoff Hobson has them making do with Pitts:

“But now because of the trade we’ve got another high second-round pick and Lord knows what else if this is a real deal. And taking Pitts behind Chase or Sewell instead of in front of them doesn’t seem as risky. If they’re using him as basically a third receiver, then he does meet a need.”

There’s nothing wrong with taking Pitts, of course. Zac Taylor went to see him at his pro day for a reason — he’s a very rare prospect at the position who is an underrated blocker and downright elite receiving weapon. Pairing him with Drew Sample as the third option in the passing attack for Joe Burrow would be an instant upgrade.

In this scenario, additional picks in the second or third rounds could go to offensive linemen after missing on a player like Sewell.

Written another way, this is a less likely scenario, yet one that would produce an A grade anyway.
