A.J. Green might miss ‘chunk’ of training camp after leg injury

The Cincinanti Bengals might end up getting lucky with star wideout A.J. Green.

Green suffered an injury to his left leg on the first day of training camp Saturday in Dayton when he got caught up with Dre Kirkpatrick near the end of practice. He was visibly frustrated and needed a cart to leave the field.

Initial reports suggested a sprain, though as Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com wrote, an MRI has to confirm and it would mean Green misses most of camp:

“It’s believed he’ll undergo an MRI Sunday and while he may miss a chunk of training camp, it would appear if no more damage is discovered he’s still on for Opening Day in Seattle on Sept. 6.”

The writeup does note X-rays were thought to have come back clean, at least. Even so, the obvious problem persists: Like anyone else on the roster, Green has to be on the field to get reps in with a new system lead by head coach Zac Taylor.

Instead, the Bengals are now merely hoping one of their best offensive weapons is ready to go by the opener.
