The Cincinnati Bengals made an initial wave of cuts Friday, trimming the roister to 80 players.
These were the players waived:
- LB Curtis Akins
- C Kirk Barron
- S Demetrious Cox
- LS Dan Godsil
- CB Tony Lippett
- DT Dare Odeyingbo
- DT Christian Ringo (injury settlement)
- LB Sterling Sheffield
- DE Immanuel Turner
- K Tristan Vizcaino
- G Christian Westerman
Christian Westerman is the biggest name there for a multitude of reasons. He figured to be in the mix at left guard before leaving the team and going on the left-team list. He reported the day of a deadline to return after dealing with what coaches called personal issues. Westerman isn’t eligible for the practice squad.
Otherwise, there aren’t any unexpected names among the first batch of cuts. The Bengals must trim the roster to 53 by Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.
