Bengals TE coach James Casey was Zac Taylor’s ‘hidden guy’ during coaching search

As Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor rounds out his coaching staff, it turns out tight ends coach James Casey was one of the biggest hires.

The reaction to Taylor’s staff has been mixed so far. But he went out of his way to stress the addition of Casey:

“Everywhere he’s played, he’s been the coaches’ favorite player … He was my one hidden guy … That’s the one I was worried about getting out because I was (afraid) someone might steal him away.”

Casey entered the NFL as a player in 2009 and transitioned to coaching after his playing career. He recently held the same position with the Houston Cougars.

Taylor’s hires have been encouraging for the most part, though questions about the past of offensive line coach Jim Turner and the overall youth of the unit have been talking points.

Still, it sounds like the Bengals got a special one with Casey and it’s another reaffirmation Taylor is being allowed to pick his own staff — and he’s getting the guys he wanted most.
