Bengals take a power rankings dive after ugly loss to 49ers

As expected, the Cincinnati Bengals are back to falling in the power rankings heading into Week 3.

After looking good in Seattle, the home opener produced an 0-2 mark via a 41-17 shellacking at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers.

That has the Bengals taking a dive with Nate Davis of USA TODAY:

31. Bengals (25): Did you notice WR John Ross is leading league with 270 receiving yards? Ross had 210 yards total in first two NFL seasons.

Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire only dropped the Bengals one spot but offered a word of caution:

Against the 49ers in a 41-17 loss, Cincinnati’s defense made pretty much everybody on San Francisco’s side look like John Ross. The Bengals have allowed an opponent passer rating of 133.2 through losses to the Seahawks and 49ers, and if that doesn’t improve soon, it won’t matter how much of a difference Zac Taylor’s offensive designs can make.

After Week 1, it seemed like power rankings were serving up some massive adjustments after having the Bengals ranked too low for most of the offseason.

Coming out of a blowout loss, it now seems like this is another big correction with most of the power rankings out there. All the Bengals can do is come out more consistent in all phases against Buffalo in Week 3 and start to show signs that Week 2 was the anomaly.

If it wasn’t, the standings will only get worse.
