Zac Taylor: Bengals still waiting on clarification from 2nd doctor on A.J. Green

The Cincinnati Bengals remain in a holding pattern when it comes to A.J. Green’s injury news.

On Monday, it was clear the Bengals are waiting to find out if Green needs surgery to repair the torn ligaments suffered on the first day of training camp.

As Monday’s practice wound down, coach Zac Taylor apologized to the media and fans about the lack of new info on the topic.

“It’ll be tomorrow, OK. Hopefully I won’t be telling you it’s the next day,” Taylor said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “We just want some clarification from another doctor and then we’ll be good to go. Apologize for giving y’all false news yesterday, but I expect to have better news tomorrow.”

As the writeup notes, the waiting game pertains to surgery. Green is already reportedly out six to eight weeks, meaning he’ll miss Week 1 in Seattle. But his undergoing an operation might push the timeline back further.

When it comes to these sorts of situations, the surgery debate is always tricky — the wrong decision could only make matters worse. Last year, Green tried to play through an injury and only made it worse once he returned to action.
