Bengals sound concerned about Randy Bullock’s kicking woes

Cincinnati Bengals kicker Randy Bullock has quietly been a problem in the background behind bigger issues over the last three games.

It isn’t a problem Bengals special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons has overlooked while the big storylines are the injuries to Joe Burrow and Jonah Williams, never mind the fight with the Miami Dolphins.

Here’s Simmons, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com:

“We have to make certain plays and he didn’t make it there so certainly I have concern. I think we’re at a point with our team where we have to make every one of them. We can’t afford to miss or not be effective. We have to execute on all of them. Certainly any time we miss it’s an issue, so I have concern for that. We’re on a bit of a downward trend here. In two of the last three games we’ve missed four kicks. Anytime we miss it’s certainly a concern.”

Bullock started the year relatively hot but has collapsed over the last three games, missing three attempts and an extra point. He’s now just 21 of 26 and the 80.8 percent is his lowest mark since joining the Bengals.

If Simmons decides to go in another direction down the stretch, the team signed Austin Seibert earlier this year, presumably as an insurance policy in the form of a COVID precaution.

While it doesn’t sound like the Bengals will make a change just yet, the ice appears to be thinning.
